Veteran ref urges hoops groups to unite

Noting the mushrooming of different groups in basketball, which he sees as a good sign that the said sport is growing in the islands, Mesa said that each group should rather support each other instead of competing.

“We are warriors of hope, masters of understanding, pioneers of respect and soldiers of trust,” Mesa said.

Leaders of different basketball organizations in the CNMI, Mesa added should teach the youths the quality basketball along with values in competitions.

Basketball he said can be used to teach communication skills, cooperation and team work.

Mesa reminds that players who want to play hard can also play fair in able to win. That, he said, also works really well in life, since good sportsmanship brings out good character.
