VETERAN riders gave spectators a day of high-octane races in round 6 of the Marianas Racing Association “Moto IV” 2024 Points Race Series at CowTown Raceway Park on Sunday.

Among them was Cuki Alvarez who continued to showcase his mastery with his third consecutive 50-point finish in the veterans class.

Whether it was wet and muddy or the dry and tacky, the conditions of the track did not affect the outcome for Alvarez as he topped both heats.

But Champi Villacanes remains a big threat as he recorded his third second-place finish with 44 points while Charles Cepeda clinched third-place with 38 points, beating Bob Ferrer, who settled for fourth with 36 points. Coming in fifth, sixth and seventh were Julian Salalila with 33 points, Ray Yumul with 30, and Ponce Rasa with 29.

The veterans class was a spectacle of skill and endurance, with each rider demonstrating years of honed expertise.

In the experts class, Shane Alvarez closely followed in his father’s footsteps with his third straight 50-point finish. Corry Pangelinan and Ellery Cruz took second and third places with 44 and 40 points, respectively, while Charles Cepeda, competing in multiple categories, showed his relentless determination with a fourth-place finish at 36 points.

The intermediate class riders also showcased their growing skills with Aric Cruz leading the pack with another perfect score of 50 points. Vicente Palacios (44 points) and Charles Cepeda (40 points) followed, each displaying their potential to climb higher in future competitions.

Matthew Guerrero, for his part, led the Novice Class with 50 points followed by Christian Camacho with 44 points and Ponce Rasa with 40.

Although Camacho finished second, he still remains the rider to beat in four wheels as he maintains his perfect season in first place with 50 points besting Greg Clark (44 points) and Henry Camacho Sr. (40 points).

Rain or shine

“The competition [in the veterans class] has been great!” Cuki Alvarez said. “We’re just a bunch of old guys who love to play in the dirt with dirt bikes! We aren’t as aggressive or as fast as the younger guns, but we have a good time racing fiercely against one another. So far, my biggest competition has been Leonard Champi Villacanes. He and I have been battling back and forth each round. Also, Charles Cepeda has really been picking it up as the season closes. He led the last race for a few laps before we were able to pass him. The veterans are the biggest class so far, his year.”

He noted that despite the weather conditions, “racers still showed up and competed and that shows the dedication of the members and their love for the sport. Motocross is rain or shine! No matter the conditions, we are racing! But it definitely says a lot for the dedication from the riders. We could have chosen not to race…but everyone agreed to race anyways. As soon as I asked, ‘OK guys can we get a raise of hands on who wants to race rain or shine?’ Everyone instantly raised their hands! So we ended up doing it and it actually turned out to be a great day! The second heat was awesome because the track was sticky and ‘tacky’ which made for perfect race conditions!”
