Volleyball pros field questions from MHS students

AVP players, Jennifer Snyder, Paul Baxter, Andrew Fuller and Claire D’ Amore are here on Saipan to once again make the island’s annual volleyball event an explosive one.

It is Snyder’s third time to visit the island which she finds amazing.

“We love it here. I’m so grateful to be here. We love everything about it (the island). We love working with the kids, we love playing with the locals. The island is just amazing,” she said after the question-and-answer session with the junior and senior students at the MHS Gym at 10 a.m.

Snyder, Baxter (who was also here last year), Fuller and D’ Amore will make the 18th Marianas Cup this weekend, another unforgettable sports event in the Pacific.

The Marianas Cup is being hosted by Northern Mariana Islands Volleyball Association.

Snyder could already tell how the students really love to participate, when they started asking questions.

“Sometimes, questions can be a little intimidating,” which she thinks indicates the level of interest among the students.

“They always participate, they love the clinic when I come out, so it’s awesome,” she said, adding that she and her colleagues love coaching and sharing their knowledge with everybody.

Shawana Sablan, a senior student said it is her first time to attend such session about volleyball and it will also be her first time to attend the clinic.

She said she likes watching volleyball but she doesn’t know how to play it.

“It’s a good sport but I think I really have to work out,” says Sablan who admires U.S. pros’ heights.

“I wish I’m also tall like them,” she said.

During the clinic held at the Pacific Island Club beach volleyball court, 40 young participants got more lessons about volleyball from the visiting U.S. pros.

Snyder added that they also wish to stay a little longer on the island.  In fact, they are working on it already.

“We love the island so much,” she said.
