Edzel Mendoza and Junar Guiab led the Wings Travels in first and second quarter, shooting for a combined total of 20 points.
While Mendoza and Guiab pushed as their team’s main offense in the first half, the Moonlights also had a set of strong players in their line-up.
Moonlight’s Joseph Galulu led the scores on his team’s side of the court with a total of 22 points. Galulu was essential in securing several lay ups for his team, especially with the support of Warren Villegas.
The Moonlight’s defense began to crumble in the second half, which partially attributed to their loss.
Edwin Santos and Tony Diaz kept the Wings Travels above the Moonlights in the fourth quarter, with Santos dominating the rebounds and Diaz stealing for easy lay ups.
Mobil 105, Island Apparel 83
Following the Wings Travels’ win last Tuesday were the SIP Mobils, who clobbered the NMBA Island Apparels by 105-83 at the basketball court near Alaihai St., Garapan.
The Island Apparels played a decent defense in the first half of the game, but were slowly overrun by Mobil’s Marvin Rabauliman, Jun Estolas, and George De Guzman.
Almost no one could stop Rabauliman from his swift lay ups and speedy drives toward the basket. None surpassed Estolas with his accurate two-pointers, while Marlon Dedios dominated in the rebounds. Ron Gamboa and Pando Muleta reinforced the Mobils’ defense, making easy steals from the Island Apparels in the second half.
Both teams appeared to be evenly matched at first, reaching their sixth deadlock of the night at 55-55 during the third quarter.
Manuel Matagolai and Rex Yabut were the Island Apparels’ main line of offense. Both players earned the highest scores for their team, with Matagolai making 16 points and Yabut 17.
By the final quarter, the Mobils easily outran their opponents for the basket.
