The Wings Travels may have lost the match if it wasn’t for a last minute two-pointer from James Camacho, who finally ended the game with 72-71.
James Camacho had been the leading player for the Wings Travels, scoring a total of 23 points. The fourth quarter proved to be his strongest point in the game, where he was able to slam in 10 points.
Before the Wings Travels’ victory, the Satbahes were enjoying their leads in the second and third quarter, Budz Camacho. Camacho led his team’s offensive, knocking down an easy 14 points in both the second and third quarter; unfortunately Camacho came short in the fourth quarter, where he only scored one field goal.
The Wings Travels’ success came from their much improved defense in the final quarter, which allowed them to catch up and ultimately defeat the Satbahes.
Three pointer saves Grillin’s
The Grillin’s took the MGDs by surprise after winning with a heart stopping three-pointer, scoring 77-74 in the second game of the Miller Lite League semifinals last Monday.
The miraculous shot was done by Grillins’ Dick Tibayan, who had less than eight seconds left on the clock. Had he missed the basket, both teams could possibly have gone to overtime.
Shortly before the game’s final deadlock, the Grillins’ momentarily kept their single-point lead after a free throw shot from Roger Herrera.
The game was tied again after MGD’s Von Tamayo was fouled, earning the MGDs a chance to score an extra point.
The Grillin’s edged the MGDs in the early parts of the game, leading by 16-11 in the first quarter and 41-32 in the second.
Roger Herrera and Lerio Pagarao led the Grillins’ offensive, with Herrera earning 32 points throughout the game and Pagarao making 29.
Tibayan noted the he knew he was going to make the Grillins’ winning shot, despite being time pressured.
As part of the Miller Lite Basketball League’s semifinals, the two winning teams – the Grillin’s and the Wings Travels – will be going head to head on Wednesday, followed by another match between the MGDs and the Satbahes.
