Thankful
This year, Northern Marianas Athletics and Run Saipan collaborated with the Northern Marianas Coalition Against Domestic & Sexual Violence in observance of Women’s Month and the upcoming Sexual Assault Awareness Month.
“We are so thankful to Northern Marianas Athletics and Run Saipan for collaborating with us,” NMCADSV Executive Director Macie B. Tenorio said.
“They recognize that many victims and survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault are women. So they wanted to create an empowering event for all the women in the CNMI and recognize that some of them may be survivors and let them know that there are people in the running community who support them,” Tenorio added.
Former Commonwealth Ports Authority Board Chair Kimberlyn King-Hinds also came out that morning to support the cause as well as the event.
“I am a survivor myself,” she said. “I feel that it is very important to come out to support these events with the hope of raising awareness of the long-lasting effects that sexual assault has with women throughout their lives. To this day, the post-traumatic results still haunt me. We actually have to start believing survivors.”
NMA, for its part, thanked their sponsors and partners NMCADSV, Foremost, Marpac, the Department of Public Safety, the Tan Siu Lin Foundation, Hyatt Regency Saipan, IT&E, and Run Saipan.
