Women’s team for Oceania caging to be selected Saturday

The training staff will hand the girls this weekend a letter informing each of them whether she is drafted or not.

The picks will be from among the 16 girls who had been attending the try out at the Marianas High School since three weeks ago.

All the girls, according to coach Elias Rangamar are already picking up as they continue attending the tryout games.

They have started learning more about dribbling and passing.

And in shooting skills, the women team aspirants also started developing muscle memory.

“They are showing big improvement and have started to develop good form and playing habit,” Rangamar said.

The Oceania tournament however, will only allow 10 players in each team of girls 19 years old and under.

Criteria the training staff set in selecting the players include height, skills, athletism, understanding of the game, experience.

Some of the girls, Rangamar said have already played in the Micronesian Basketball Tournament last year when CNMI placed second.

Since its first time for the NMI to send a women’s team in Oceania Youth Tournament, there are lots of things to do in able to catch up.

Some of the girls attending the tryout have played in high school leagues and so far, have shown good performance in basketball.
