Yanai has now set the CNMI record for the eight and under boys’ 100m freestyle to 1:17.64 while posting the best time of 46.53 for the eight and under boys’ 50m breast stroke to shatter the old CNMI record. Yanai took first place in the latter event.
In the boys’ 9-10 50m breast stroke Saipan Swim Club’s Kento Akimura placed first in a pool of six swimmers clocking in at 41.63 while Tsunami’s Kaito Yanai and Kaisei Toda ruled the boys’ 11-12 50m breast stroke and boys’ 13-14 50m breast stroke with 39.23 and 40.97.
Kaito Yanai also placed first in the boys’ 11-12 100m butterfly event at 1:17.57 followed by Guam’s Tommy Imazu at 1:17.58 and beating fellow teammate Takumi Sugie at 1:26.58.
Lukas Kang and Ryuto Yanai ran the show in the boys’ eight and under 50m backstroke. The former posted the best time of 42.26 while the latter placed second with 45.88.
“I am very proud of our competitors in last weekend’s event. It was exciting to see them break old records and set new CNMI records,” said Tsunami head coach Hiroyuki Kimura in an interview with the Variety.
Yanai was not alone in shattering old records. Teammate Lukas Kang also posted his best time of 46.80 in the breast stroke event as well while clubmate Ryosei Toda finished the nine and under boys’ 50m breast stroke at 3:17.90.
Toda also bagged first place in the 10 and under boys’ 400m freestyle clocking in at 5:43.53 beating Guam’s Noel Keane and Daravan Perez who timed in at 5:59.61 and 6:02.82 respectively.
Saipan Swim Club’s Victoria Chentsova placed second in the girls’ 13-14 400m freestyle clocking in at 5:16.62 eclipsed by Guam’s Michelle Ysrael at 5:13.44.
Chentsova then took on the girls’ 13-14 200m freestyle finishing with 2:29.86 in a pool of three competitors.
Meanwhile Tsunami’s young gun Angel Tan posted the best time of 40.89 in the girls’ 11-12 50m breast stroke surpassing Guam’s Danielle Atoigue and Sanda Gugin.
Tan, along with teammate Miku Tammy, was then seen again crushing other Guam participants in the girls’ 9-10 and 11-12 50m butterfly. The latter finished the event with 34.95 while the latter clocked in at 40.66 surging past 11 other competitors.
During event seven Hiroto Yanai surpassed four competitors for the top spot of the boys’ 9-10 200m freestyle clocking in after 2:46.35.
Ryuto Yanai and Saipan Swim Club’s Kento Akimaru swam atop the boys’ 8U and 9-10 50m butterfly with 39.10 while Akimaru clocked in at 35.54.
