Yo Face, Kingz face off in Rocball finals

The championship will consist of a five-game series, which starts tomorrow between the Kingz and Yo Face. In a recent game between both teams, the Kingz lost two of three sets. They came back in the final set however, and ‘juiced out’ to win with the highest total points. Team Yo Face won the first couple sets 17-15 and 16-14 with a 33-29 point lead before playing the third set.

“That meant the Kingz would have to win the third set with at least a five point margin

to win the game,” said Rocball coordinator Jim Feger in an email.

“And, in Rocball, it isn’t the number of sets won that matters, it is what the score of each set won that counts,” he added.

In the first two sets against the Hit Its, the Kingz jumped ahead twice before losing momentum and failing to close out in service. The unyielding Hit Its capitalized on the Kingz mistakes but burnt out in the third set.

The Kingz overwhelmed their foes, scoring five points from their first three serves. The Hit Its scored from a volley point but suffered from a penalty serve. The best team Hit It could do was score two points in the third set before being juiced out by the Kingz 16-2.

The Kingz tallied 5-2 in aces and 9-1 in kees. They were outscored in xunks, with both teams tied at one goal apiece. However, it was a Hit It player who scored a goal for the Kingz. With a missed bump and set play, the ball backfired into the Hit Its’ own goal.

Kingz’ Jason Laniyo was the game’s heavy hitter with two aces, four kees, and one goal for 15 points.

Tomorrow’s game one of the Kingz and Yo Faces’ championship series will start at 12:45 p.m. during lunch break in the MHS gym.
