Bleaken, who visited Saipan last October for a coaching-seminar and brief visits to two schools, will return for her first summer clinic. The clinic accepts participants between the ages of seven and 18 and will run until Thursday, June 30.
Scheduled time is from 9 to 12 p.m. at the NMBA’s gym located in the Tan Siu Lin Sports Complex.
“I am very much looking forward to seeing the newly renovated TSL Sports Complex and helping the young people in Saipan enjoy playing badminton,” said Bleaken in an email to Variety.
She plans to introduce some aspects of the Badminton World Federation Schools Programme, which consists of basic introductory techniques. These include grips, footwork, various shots, and different types of drills and games.
“This will focus on the core skills involved in badminton – hitting and catching, stability and balance, jumping and throwing, and speed and agility,” she added. “The participants should expect to have fun, learn some new skills, get a lot of exercise, and enjoy the game of badminton.”
Bleaken expects a large turnout in participants as badminton continues to grow in the island.
Registration fee is $5 and badminton equipment will be provided by the NMBA.
