Matansa clinches first win in soccer league

THE Matansa Football Club  notched its first win in the Marianas Soccer League 2 after shutting down Island Star 2-0 on Sunday at the NMI Soccer Training Center.

Matansa created a quick striking opportunity with Juhn Tenorio at the frontline to gain the lead in the very first minute.

Island Star tightened their defense and successfully fended off attacks but they were unable to score a goal.

At the beginning of the second half, after a few back and forth exchanges, Matansa found the back of the net thanks to Matthew Tawagon to widen their lead, 2-0.

Despite Island Star’s relentless efforts, they just could not get past Matansa’s line of defense and went down in defeat, 0-2.

Bangladesh Youth vs Shirley’s Football Club

The Bangladesh Youth are second place in the team standings after outgunning Shirley’s Football Club 3-1.

It was a scoreless first half, but the Bangladesh Youth picked up the pace to  overwhelm Shirley’s with countless attacks. Just six minutes into the second half, the Bangladesh Youth set up Mohammad Hossain who then sank the first goal of the day to give his team control, 1-0.

But Shirley’s had the chance to strike back thanks to Zhi Guang who evened the score 1-1.

The game appeared headed to  a draw, but in the 60th minute Hossain scored while team-mate Mohammad Uddin added the icing on the cake with a follow-up goal three minutes later to seal the deal 3-1.

Saipan United vs Bangladesh Football Club

Saipan United remains number one in the team standings after edging the Bangladesh Football Club 3-2.

It was a fairly even match with Bangladesh FC taking control early with two goals delivered by Md. Soheal Akanda and Rakib Hassan  at the 8th and 11th minute marks. Saipan United then fired back with two of their own courtesy of Floyd Muna in the 17th minute and Michael Devanna in the 26th to tie the game, 2-2.

In the second half, however, Saipan United unleashed a powerful offensive that resulted in Ichiro Borja’s game-winning goal at the 50th minute mark to secure victory 3-2.
