MOUNT Carmel School’s varsity team is now ranked fourth overall in the boys high school division of the IT&E Interscholastic Basketball League after bagging their fourth win by beating Saipan International School, 48-36, Wednesday at the Marianas High School gym.
MCS V established control early on with Michael Mercado scoring eight of his team’s first 10 points.
SIS V fought back with Ian Song and Omari Joab at the frontline but with more misses than hits, they could not catch up with MCS’ superior teamwork highlighted by Kern Han and Jake Regalado who pushed a double-digit spread, 26-14.
In second half, SIS began closing the gap as MCS V started to falter. With each successful defensive stop, SIS’ Joab scored, contributing seven points within the first five minutes.
SIS also managed to shut down Mercado’s output, but MCS remained afloat as the rest of the team stepped up: Derek Sasamoto ignited with six points, including one triple, while Regalado delivered eight points to secure the win, 48-36.
Winners, too
Joining the winner’s circle were Saipan Southern High School and Marianas High School’s junior varsity teams.
SSHS JV trounced Mount Carmel School JV, 23-9 while MHS JV outlasted Kagman High School JV, 30-24.
