MEL Sablan topped the Marianas Golf Association’s January Ace of the Month Tournament on Sunday at Coral Ocean Resort.
It was a hard-fought battle for Sablan as he struggled on the front nine, making several bogeys, but he putted enough pars to keep him in the game.
Despite a rough start, he managed to turn the tables during the transition to the back nine, making four bogeys while finishing strong with a birdie on the 18th hole for a gross total of 80. With a handicap of 14, his net score was 66, good enough for first place.
Coming in second was Jesse Stole who was just one stroke behind. Like Sablan, Stole struggled on the front nine but improved his game on the back nine, making two bogeys only and finishing with a birdie on the last hole to end the day with a gross total of 82. With a 15 handicap, his net score was 67.
In third place was Isaac Aguon who shot a gross total of 83 and, thanks to a 15 handicap, a net score of 68.
Ron Benavente and Joe Sasamoto were tied in fourth and fifth places with a net score of 70.
