THE Marianas High School Dolphins earned their second win in the IT&E Interscholastic Girls High School Basketball League by outscoring the Saipan Southern High School Manta Rays 14-6 on Wednesday at the MHS gym.
The team to beat this season, the Dolphins entered the court ready to score with Angellyn Roligat finding her stroke early to deliver the first six points for MHS.
SSHS struggled to create shot opportunities and could only make one bucket courtesy of Jane Elias even as MHS’ lead continued to grow with Dolphins Paulynn Joyce and Destiny Pangelinan contributing two points each.
But the Manta Rays improved their performance in the second half of the game as Elias remained a threat, connecting two more shots.
Both teams defended aggressively, but it was MHS that seized the opportunity of drawing fouls to get uncontested shots from the free-throw line.
MHS’ Marielle Lopez excelled in getting into the line as she brought in seven points to widen the Dolphins’ lead en route to a 14-6 victory.
