THE CNMI’s Nate Guerrero and Janelle Pangilinan snatched gold in the mixed doubles category  of the 2022 Guam Badminton Invitational Tournament over the weekend.

The CNMI pair has always been a powerhouse, dominating nearly every tournament on Saipan, but even on the neighboring island of Guam, Guerrero and Pangilinan were a force to be reckoned with.

In the tournament finale, they faced Guam National Badminton Federation's CJ Estipona and Elaine Labang.

In the first set, Pangilinan found her rhythm early as she excelled in the finish and scored the first seven points for the CNMI.

However, Guam bounced back as Estipona unleashed back-to-back highlights to cut the CNMI’s lead, 7-10.

Guerrero provided extra firepower, but with each made point, Guam had an answer on the other end.

However, as it came down to the final few exchanges, Guerrero managed to clinch the final point needed to triumph 21-19 in the first set.

In the second set, the CNMI duo was invincible. Pangilinan, once again, displayed finesse with consecutive finishes for 12 straight points. Guam tried to rekindle the fire but failed to break the CNMI's run as Pangilinan continued to attack the weakside to win the set and the match for the Commonwealth, 21-12.
