NMI falls to Guam in FIBA Micro Cup 2022

THE NMI’s men and women’s teams are off to a rough start in the FIBA Micronesian Basketball Cup 2022 as both took a big hit against Guam on Wednesday.

In the men’s division, the NMI was buried by Guam, 113-45.

The NMI’s Coby Santos led the team with 21 points with Shane Deleon Guerrero as the only other NMI player to score double-digits at 12 points.

Guam was dominant and they held the NMI to single-digit productions in the first two quarters,

The NMI Women’s Team suffered the same fate as they, too, were routed by their Guam’s counterparts, 94-46.

Sisters E’Anna and Ky’Sonna Won highlighted most of the offensive buckets for the  NMI while the rest of the team chipped in with balanced work to trail a little over 10 points in the first quarter, 17-28.

However, Guam maintained a steady performance and eventually left the NMI in the proverbial dust.

On Thursday, the NMI Women’s Team outplayed Palau, 74-53, but the NMI men faltered in the final quarter against Palau which won 72-57.
