JAVIN Okawa won two overall titles in the 2022 Dee Clayton Classic Bodybuilding & Fitness Championship on Saturday in the Taga Hall of Saipan World Resort.
Okawa has put in a lot of work and it showed on competition night. With each quarter turn, the 25-year-old showcased his muscular arms, abs and legs.
In the short division of the men’s physique category, Okawa took first place while Shawn Fleming came in second and Jovic Tuquero placed third.
In the tall division, Daniel Matsunaga claimed first place with Jolo Berveco and Richard Waldo Jr. in second and third places.
In the teen division, Mark Lagado claimed the top spot while Darren Tabora settled for second place.
Among the eight contestants in the men’s physique category, it was Okawa who shined the brightest and was named overall winner.
Okawa also took the spotlight in the classic physique category, placing first in the short division with Jovic Tuquero and Ralph Adrian Villas in second and third places.
For the tall division, Daniel Matsunaga took the top spot while Ferdinand Jun Lagmay came in second and Jojo Berveco was third.
Against six other contestants, Okawa bagged his second overall title.
“I’m surprised and grateful,” he said. “I did not expect to win two overall titles.”
Okawa got into bodybuilding six years ago. Since then, he has won an overall title in the classic physique and two overall titles in the men’s physique category for a total of three overall trophies.
2023 Pacific Games
What makes this year’s competition extra special is that the Northern Marianas Bodybuilding Physique Federation will select two competitors from the men’s bodybuilding, classic bodybuilding, and physique categories, and two each from the women’s figure, bikini and physique categories to represent the CNMI in the Pacific Games set for November 2023 in Honiara, Solomon Islands.
Okawa will be one of the Team CNMI bodybuilders.
“I’m excited that I qualified for the Pacific Games next year — all that hard work and ‘suffering’ have finally paid off. This is something I enjoy doing and it’s also a stress reliever,” he added.
Joining Okawa on the podium Saturday was Ferdinand Jun Lagmay who won first place in the lightweight division of the bodybuilding category.
Jovic Toquero, for his part, topped the bantamweight division of the bodybuilding category.
Lagmay has been a competitive bodybuilder since 2013 and has won several titles along the way. He earned his second overall trophy on Saturday.
“Of course, I’m happy and considering my age of 45, I’m still going to compete,” he said. This is my passion and I love going to the gym,” Lagmay added as he also expressed gratitude to his sponsors.
The results in the women’s categories will be in the next edition of Variety.
