RUN Saipan will host a year-end event, Run From 2021, on Dec. 31, Friday.
The year is coming to a close and with the Covid-19 pandemic still on the rise, postponing many events, Run Saipan is hoping to end the year by running away from 2021 and into 2022.
The one-mile challenge will begin at 6:30 a.m. and start at the Beach Road southbound lane beside the Quartermaster World War II tank memorial. The route will stretch along the main road in a one-way course so runners are encouraged to run their fastest without holding back.
This race will crown the fastest one-mile road runner on Saipan before we all say goodbye to 2021.
“This event is special because runners can end the year on a high note while ushering in 2022,” Run Saipan president Edward Dela Cruz Jr. said.
“I’ve always wanted to hold a one-mile road race especially on the main road. This is going to be a fast course. It is a one-way course. No curves, no inclines and no obstacles. I want nothing to impede runners so they can run their best one miler on New Year’s Eve morning. This will be a yearly event,” Dela Cruz added.
Although there is a chance that the event may be postponed due to the continuous rise in the number of Covid-19 cases on island, Dela Cruz is still optimistic. “Safety is always our priority…. A lot can happen in two weeks. We pray this event goes through and for the safety of our community.”
