PAIRE Football Club Team 1 edged PFC Team 2, 1-0, to win the Masters Division championship of the Dove Women’s League Spring 2021 on Sunday at the NMI Soccer Training Center.
After just five minutes of play in the opening half, PFC Team 1 created an opening for Lindsay Davis to deliver what turned out to be the game’s sole — and decisive — goal.
Although there were still well over 30 minutes of play left, neither of the teams could score, and this gave PFC Team 1 the championship and a flawless record of 9-0-0.
Matansa vs TanHoldings
The battle for third place was livelier as the Matansa Football Club and TanHoldings FC took the game to overtime.
After a scoreless first half, the real action began in the second half when TanHoldings finally penetrated through Matansa’s defense.
THFC’s Yoko Borja then fired a quick shot that found the back of the net at the 34th minute mark to give her team the edge, 1-0.
MFC, however, was relentlessness and at the 51st minute mark, its players found their second wind with Tawny Barcinas sinking the much-needed goal to even the score before the final whistle was blown.
The game then went into overtime in which penalty kicks would decide the match.
THFC shot well with Mariquit Chavez and Roxe Lazaro contributing a goal each, but MFC’s Bunruang Brasuell and Tawny Barcinas equalized, after which team-mate Alleny Tenorio connected the game-winning goal to secure a 3-2 victory and a third place finish for Matansa FC.
