FIVE teams are vying for the Micronesian Roccball championship at the Marianas High School gym.
In the first game of the 2022 season, new player Jerome Manzon stole the show with several highlights. He scored 4 two-point aces as well as 4 three-point goals.
According to Roccball founder Jim Feger, Manzon is an up-and-coming premier player who also helps with officiating games when he is not on the court playing.
In last week’s games, Team Nakama defeated Team Redacted in an overtime set.
Redacted scored 13 two-point aces and 2 two-point backcourt plays while Nakama scored 3 aces and 2 three-point goals.
Against Laly 4, Team San Jose scored 10 two-point aces, 1 two-point xunk, and 4 three-point goals.
Saipan’s own
Roccball, which was formerly spelled Rocball, is “Saipan’s Own Sport,” and the first to include three-point scoring, unrestricted hitting/kicking and rally point scoring before the team net sports of basketball and volleyball adopted these creative forms of competition in the late 1980s and mid-1990s.
In international Roccball news, Rajender S. Ahlawat will be the president of the Rocball/Roccball Amateur Federation of India for another five years.
Under Ahlawat’s leadership, Roccball associations have been established in all 22 states of India. Ahlawat is also the president of the Asian Rocball/Roccball Confederation and will oversee the development of Roccball in Asia. The Roccball headquarters for Asia will be in Delhi, India.
