SERIN Chung, among several other players, earned a podium finish at the conclusion of the Saipan International School Tennis Tournament held Sunday at the American Memorial Park tennis court.
Chung, who bagged the women’s single title in the 2021 White-Coconut Classic last February, topped the SIS Girls Singles 16 category by defeating Hye Jin Elliot, 6-4, 6-4.
On her way to the finals, Chung’s first faced Yebin Shin on Saturday. Chung’s smart placements along with quick attacks and deep defensive plays got the best of her opponent.
Shin tried to switch up the tempo, but she just could not break through her opponent’s defense, eventually losing to Chung 0-4, 0-4.
As for Hye Jin Elliot, she vanquished Seiyul Hong to reach the finals.
Against Elliot, Hong was able to earn a point, but in the end, Elliot’s consistency overwhelmed her opponent in the first set, 4-1.
The second time around, Elliot made sure not to commit any errors and quickly disposed of Hong with a flawless 4-0 finish to find herself face to face with Chung once again, just like in the White-Coconut Classic tournament.
Chung and Elliot punctuated the final match with exciting action and intense exchanges.
But Chung managed to stay on her toes long enough to force Elliot to slip allowing Chung to win the first set, 6-4.
Elliot tried her best to stay alive with more back-and-forth action in the second set, but in the end, it was Chung who reigned supreme once more with another 6-4 victory to secure the championship.
