SHERLYN Jones is off to a strong start in the new season of the CNMI Women’s Golf Association, winning the first monthly title on Sunday at the Kingfisher Golf Links.
Jones managed to set the tone early as she closed the front nine with a gross of 40. In the transition to the back nine, Jones tried to maintain a steady swing but struggled slightly, closing the remaining nine holes with a gross score of 41. With a gross total of 81 and a handicap of 8, her net score was 73.
Lorraine Babauta’s net score was also 73. She scored a gross of 38 on the front nine, but she shot 44 on the back nine which gave Jones the top spot.
Babuata settled for second place while Lydia Tan came in third.
Tan completed the front nine with a gross of 42 but lost her grip on the back nine with a gross of 48 for a total score of 90. Her 16 handicap gave her a net score of 74.
The next tournament will be held on June 11 at LaoLao Bay Golf & Resort west course with showtime at 11:30 a.m. and tee time at 12:30 p.m.
