SHIRLEY’S Football Club 1 and Old B Bank bested their adversaries Friday in the Marianas Soccer League 2 at the NMI Soccer Training Center in Koblerville.
Thanks to their second half pressure, Shirley’s 1 overcame MP United Football Club, 3-0.
It was a grueling first half with both teams unable to find the back of the net. However, after several exchanges, SFC 1 eventually gained momentum with constant pressure.
MPU failed to maintain control and committed an infraction that led to a penalty kick with Dhiraj Chhetri connecting at the 37th minute mark to give Shirley’s 1 the lead, 1-0.
Shirley’s 1 continued to hold most of the possession throughout the second half , adding two more goals. Jeremiah Benavente broke through at the 44th minute mark while Paulo Quidato delivered at the 69th minute mark to seal the deal, 3-0.
Old B Bank vs Matansa
Old B Bank, for their part, took down the Matansa Football Club, 3-1.
It was MFC that drew first blood thanks to Jordan Ruiz’s quick thinking.
Old B Bank’s John Canape retaliated a minute later to even the odds.
Old B Bank then took over the second half as they denied all incoming shots while Ruselle Zapanta and Panapa Peteru kept the fuel burning on the offensive end with a goal each at the 56th and 74th minute marks, respectively, to secure the win, 3-1.
