SHIRLEY’S Football Club earned its fourth consecutive win in Division A of the Dove Women’s League Spring 2021 after outlasting the Southern United Football Club, 3-1, Sunday at the NMI Soccer Training Center mini-pitch.
Shirley’s established control early in the game with constant attacks. It scored the first goal of the match with Katrina Costales delivering at the 10th minute mark to give her team a 1-0 lead.
The Southern United players then reevaluated their defensive plans and focused on protecting their goal post.
But their efforts were not enough as Shirley’s cooked up yet another assault at the 22nd minute mark with Fiona Bucalig scoring to widen her team’s lead, 2-0.
The Southern United players responded by hustling their way to allow Britany Wally to score at the 38th minute mark and bring the game back within reach, 2-1.
In the second half, the Southern United player gave it their all as they aimed to take control or at least force a draw. But Shirley’s kept up the offensive pressure that culminated in Jerlyn Castillo’s goal to secure a 3-1 win for her team.
Kanoa vs TanHoldings
The Kanoa Football Club scored its second win of the season by taking down the TanHoldings Football Club, 3-2.
Kanoa started in control with a goal at the 20th minute mark of the first half courtesy of Khristelle Itaas.
Then in the second half, TanHoldings managed to turn the tide with Tyana Hix scoring at the 27th minute mark and Mia Abuan delivering at the 36th to give TanHoldings the lead, 2-1.
But Kanoa quickly shifted gears led by Ericka Santiago who scored at the 39th minute mark to tie the game after which her team-mate Itaas sealed the deal for Kanoa, 3-2, at the 48th minute mark with her second goal.
