SIS beats FMS V in boys middle school basketball

SAIPAN International School secured their first win by edging Francisco M. Sablan Middle School V, 25-24, in the boys middle school division of the IT&E Interscholastic Basketball League on Monday at the Marianas High School gym.

FMS V established control early in the first half as they played well as a team, focusing on ball movements and creating open shots.

FMS V’s Dany Defang led the offense with four points while Payton Basa, Jairus Pangilian, and Leon Duenas chipped in a bucket each.

SIS fought back and drew a handful of fouls but still trailed 7-11 by halftime.

Despite the rough start, SIS returned to the second half like a different team. Thanks to Aiden Camacho’s ability to finish at the rim, he scored 11 points and gave SIS the lead.

FMS V’s Basa delivered eight points but was forced to foul in order to stop the clock.

Fortunately for SIS, Nasson Wessel was consistent from the free throw line,  knocking down two consecutive shots.

FMS V tried to stage a comeback but Theo Joab’s split on the charity line was enough to secure the win for SIS, 25-24.

Joining the winner’s circle were Chacha Oceanview Middle School which outgunned Grace Christian Academy, 24-16, and Saipan Community School which outscored Tanapag Middle School, 30-16.
