Runners battle for the lead in the 1500M race of the middle/high school division of the PSS-NMA All School Athletics qualifying meet on Saturday at the Oleai Sports Complex.
SAIPAN International School and Marianas High School took the top spots in the 1500M race during the second qualifying meet of the PSS-NMA All School Athletics on Saturday at the Oleai Sports Complex.
In the girl’s division, Kaithlyn Chavez of SIS finished first with a time of 5:52.07 while school mate Tiana Cabrera came in second at 5:57.43.
Agape Christian School’s runners put up a fight and filled the remaining slots of the top five. Eunice Xu came in third with a time of 5:58.52, followed by Eunice Wu in fourth with a time of 6:54.31, and Lucy Hong in fifth with a time of 6:58.80.
In the boy’s division, it was MHS’ Anthony Bergancia who finished first place with a time of 5:14.08. ACS’ Aaron Wang clocked 5:14.56 to settle for second place while Saipan Southern High School’s Yu Ling Chai came in third with a time of 5:16.73. In fourth place was SSHS’ Simon Tang with a time of 5:19.07 while Grace Christian Academy’s Takeru Jim finished fifth with a time of 5:19.35.
400M race
In the 400M race, ACS’ Priscilla Cheng and SIS’ Kaithlyn Chavez topped their respective heats in the girl’s division.
ACS’ Cheng led heat 1 with a time of 1:20.56 followed by school mate Sunny Wang in second with a time of 1:21.59 and Tinian’s Daemianne Adriano in third with a time of 1:33.07.
In heat 2, Chavez earned another first-place finish by clocking 1:09.56 while ACS’ Eunice Xu came in second with a time of 1:13.39 and Tinian’s Isa Dosalua finished third with a time of 1:29.88.
In the boy’s division, MHS, Tinian and GCA shared the top spots in their respective heats.
MHS’ Cody Shimizu powered through heat 1 to finish first with a time of 59:7 while ACS’ Caleb Cui settled for second with a time of 1:00.16 and ACS’ Abraham Zhu came in third with a time of 1:05.15.
Heat 2 was led by Tinian’s Matthew Sarmiento with a time of 1:02.34. ACS’ Jacky Liu came in second with a time of 1:02.71 while GCA’s Jasper Hall finished third with a time of 1:03.17.
Heat 3 was led by GCA’s Theodore Rodgers who clocked 57.83 followed by MHS’ Mokyang Kim with a time of 1:00.63, and Tinian’s Saim Ali with a time of 1:01.85.
100M race
In the 100M sprint event, leading heat 1 of the girl’s division was MHS’ Destiny Pangelinan with a time of 14.21, followed by SSHS’ Ha’ani Passi, 14.68, and ACS’ Priscilla Cheng, 15.18.
Heat 2 was highlighted by SSHS’ Casey Cruz with a time of 13.45. MHS’ Jannah Casarino was second with a time of 15.2, and Karisse Ong was third with a time of 16.06.
As for Heat 3, it was was led by Kagman High School’s Edwardina Flamar with a time of 14.44 followed by MHS’ Tamia Kileleman-Hix with a time of 13.94, and ACS’ Sunny Wang with a time of 15.39.
In the boy’s division, heat 1 was led by ACS’ Bill Li with a time of 11.98 followed by GCA’s Jasper Hall with a time of 12.5, and ACS’ Caleb Cui with a time of 13.14.
Heat 2 was dominated by GCA’s Theodore Rodgers who clocked 11.63. MHS’ Cody Shimizu was second with a time of 12.3 while SSHS’ Hombre Hocog was third with a time of 12.56.
Tinian joined the podium finish with Matthew Sarmiento topping Heat 3 with a time of 12.21. MHS Mokyang Kim was second with a time of 12.42 while Tinian’s Justice Aldan was third with a time of 12.74.
Heat 4 was led by SSHS’ Jovic Tuquero with a time of 12.3 followed by Tinian’s Saim Ali with a time of 12.6, and SIS’ William Lee with a time of 13.19.
