Softball tournament fundraiser begins Friday

A FUNDRAISING softball tournament will start on Friday, Aug. 12 and  will run through Aug. 15, 17 to 19 at the Capital Hill baseball field.

The proceeds will go toward the procurement of new baseball equipment and the participation of a local team in the upcoming Labor Day Marianas Friendship tournament that will be held on Guam.

“In collaboration with many community members, we have noticed a growing interest in our youth to bring back baseball,” said softball tournament fundraiser coordinator Rayna Sablan.

She is also the director of community service of the Rotaract Club of Saipan which is assisting  the NMI U18 baseball team that will  compete on Guam.

As a young professional of the Marianas, Sablan said she wants to help foster peace in the islands by supporting a cause that can create a positive environment for the youth and allow them to meet and engage with like-minded peers, foster friendships, improve their physical and mental health, and encourage more recreational activities.

So far, she said 11 teams have already signed up for the softball tournament which will have men’s and women’s divisions.

The participating men’s division teams are YaoYao, Kemeliz, Clique, No Excuses, TokáHåo, Scoutz 1, Scoutz 2, Dat’s It, Lock Down, Red Men, and the  Regulators.

The tournament’s gold sponsors are the Rotaract Club of Saipan and McDonald’s of Saipan & Guam. The silver sponsors are Latte Built Saipan and Grace “Pitu” Sablan while the bronze sponsors are Gold’s Gym Saipan and Poki-Yaki Saipan.
