TANIA Tan set another NMI record when she finished first in the 10K Run of the 57th Colonial Relays at William & Mary College in Williamsburg, Virginia on Saturday.
“I felt good coming into it,” said Tan, a Fordham University student. “The weather was super crazy though — the wind was so bad which made it tough. But it is what it is, and all you could do is run your best which is what I did.”
She topped the race with a time of 38:27.06 which is a new NMI record. “I didn’t hit the time I wanted. I was hoping to go under 38 minutes, but I literally ran the whole race alone from the third lap and a win is a win!” she said.
In second place was Josephine Critchley (LIU) with a time of 38:56.10, followed by Jaelyn D’Amelio (Kutztown) 38:58.66; Catherne Breault (Appalachian State), 39:05.35; and Sasha Willie (Southern Virginia), 39:10.22.
Fourteen runners participated in the event.
“Running really helps strengthen your mentality so I just hope to keep improving from here and continue to learn and grow as, not only a runner and athlete, but as a person as well,” Tan said. “Hopefully I can also continue to break records, whether my own personal or NMI ones.”
Tan’s records include: indoor 1-mile time of 5:32; indoor 3K time of 10:18; indoor 5K time of 18:02 (17:53 conversion); outdoor 10K time of 38:27; outdoor 5K time of 18:51; and outdoor 3K time of 10:58.
