‘The Crank’ says governor should take fitness challenge

GOVERNOR Ralph DLG Torres last week said he would work toward a healthier and more active lifestyle.

UFC fighter Frank “The Crank” Camacho said he welcomes the governor’s announcement and hopes Torres will take a “fitness challenge.”

Camacho said the governor’s statement caught him by surprise. “He was stressing the importance of health and wellness. To be honest, I don’t really follow politics, and I don’t see eye-to-eye with Governor Torres on some things, but this right here is something I fully stand behind. Why? Because health and wellness work. And they are  finally being addressed at the highest level.”

But, he added, “do you have what it takes to fully commit? This is a lifestyle change. There’s a saying, ‘Before you fully understand someone, you must walk a mile in their shoes.’ I challenge [the governor] to not just walk a mile, but run 3.2 miles by May 14…. I want you to get a real good taste…of health and wellness and what it really feels like. Can you lead by example? What do you say?”

Camacho said a healthy lifestyle  saved his life when he got Covid-19 not once but twice.

“I believe that because I was in really good shape, and was eating healthy, drinking lots of water and  had low stress levels, the most I got from Covid was a runny nose and loss of taste and smell,” he said. “The second time I got it, which was recently, I was down for about a day. I got a fever and a headache, then the next day I was able to do yard work. I am blessed that Covid hasn’t hit me hard.”

Camacho added, “Fitness, health and wellness will not only help you and your loved ones with Covid but with all the other diseases our people suffer from: diabetes, hypertension, heart disease, etc.”

Camacho said he is “super excited” about the governor’s message on the importance of fitness and health.

“Finally someone at the top is prioritizing fitness, health and wellness. I live it every day. I get the experience and the massive benefits from it. And I would love everyone in the CNMI to experience these benefits.

“For [the governor] to understand why I stand by health and wellness so much, he should dive head first into it and change his lifestyle to reap the benefits. I’m confident the governor can have a decent 5k time too. I know the governor can do it. He has the capacity to make a positive difference in people’s lives through this. If he commits, I know many others will too. That is why I’m so excited and I challenge him to see if he really has what it takes!”
