Tinian basketball fan receives Perfect Attendance Award

BASKETBALL may be all about which team is left standing after the finale, but for the 2021 Tinian Islandwide Men’s Bud Light Basketball League and the Tinian Amateur Basketball Association, the fans are just as important.

This year, they recognized Inday Anacita Palmitos Vergara as the Perfect Attendance awardee during the awards ceremony on Wednesday at the Tinian gymnasium.

Since day one of the tournament, Vergara had not missed a game.

“She had no favorite team so she would cheer both teams, whoever were playing,” TABA Chairman Christopher SN King said.

She would also provide bottled water  to the table officials as well as the referees, he added.

She could not watch the championship game last week because her youngest daughter’s birthday was being celebrated on the same day so her friend Venus A. Manglona received the award on Vergara’s behalf.

King said he also sent her photos and updates about the championship game while it was being played. Rampage bested Kio, 56-51

King said he told Vergara, “Tap yourself on your shoulder and be proud of yourself because all of the teams are behind her and they said, ‘Thank you so much!’ So I told her to be happy and proud.”

King added, “She’s a true fan, but I’ve never heard of an individual receiving such an award in the past.”
