I’M writing in response to the article entitled “‘Survivor Japan’ May Shoot Episode 3 on Saipan” that was on the paper last Thursday.
I think this is a great idea! This is FREE exposure for our islands to our largest market of tourists. I was in Palau recently while the taping of “Survivor Japan” was going on and while there I was wondering if they would ever look to the CNMI as their next destination since our islands have their own uniqueness and natural beauty that may attract the show’s producers.
I would strongly recommend that they use the island of Pagan in the Northern Islands. I don’t think the producers would want to shoot the show on Saipan, Tinian or Rota, where there is quite a population. The show would most likely look to one of our northern islands, and Pagan is the perfect island to choose. Unlike most of the Northern Islands, Pagan has beaches instead of cliff lines, flat and hilly land and there are also many jungles for the contestants to participate in their activities that are usually done in the show.
The governor and the head of the Marianas Visitors Authority, Mrs. Vicky I. Benavente, should look into this quickly and respond quickly, too. The visitor industry is suffering a whole lot from the low visitor count recently, but I can almost guarantee that this show will give us great exposure to Japan. This is something that our people will be proud of in the long run, therefore it shouldn’t be brushed away.RONALD MUNA
