I convinced my grandmother to rent a car and was thrilled when she agreed. This was her first time driving anywhere besides Guam. We were coming to the end of Tun Herman Pan Rd. when we saw the three-way intersection, (left for Dandan, right for San Vicente, and our part of the road) there is a divider in the middle of the road that allows vehicles coming from Dandan to turn onto Tun Herman Pan Rd.
This is where it gets scary.
One thing I realized about roads in Saipan is that they are not clearly marked. My grandma and I were confused on where to go so she drove to the side of the lane where the cars coming from the opposite direction turn into the road. Luckily while driving on the left side of the road we didn’t get hit. I know common sense, but Saipan needs to clearly define road borders, etc.
My grandmother didn’t know whether Beach Road in front of DFS was a two-lane road or not. And she told me that she was terrified while driving down Navy Hill.
Instead of concentrating on issues that need no attention, the CNMI government should shift priorities and implement a road rehabilitation program before something serious happens.
