IN the May 21 edition of Variety you spent a lot of time talking about the Eucon School’s status. We are curious about what the school status has to do with taking away the students’ passports.
This kind of behavior is why many of our guests from off-island are afraid to deal with the Department of Labor and Immigration. It is also why people sometimes think of the commonwealth as a bad place. You are not helping to get rid of these negative perceptions.
What would you do if you visited another country and some agency just took away your passport? Put yourself or your family in the shoes of these students. It is not necessary for you to show everyone how “powerful” you are.
Taking away someone’s passport is like taking away his or her life. Return the passports to the students so that they can live their lives properly.KAREN HARTMAN
