BAMBOO Club 88 BlackBall and Last Shot Eagles Eye will vie for the Thursday Division championship of the Saipan Billiards Association Budweiser 8-Ball League after defeating their adversaries in the semifinals Thursday last week.
Bamboo Club 88 BlackBall secured their spot in the finals by beating the number one seed, Bamboo MJD Tres Marias, 9-6, at the New Bamboo Bar of Saipan Vegas.
Both teams’ hunger for a shot at the title showed as neither could gain control in the first two games.
Eventually, the Tres Marias seized the lead when Jerry Soriano and Joseph Achas bagged the first match, but BlackBallers Randy David and Jess Farinas snatched the other match to even the score 1-1.
In the Singles 8-Ball game, BlackBall grabbed the lead again with two consecutive wins courtesy of Jesse Guerra and Rey Hermogenes, but Soriano and Rey Matsunaga of the Tres Marianas managed to pocket the remaining two matches for a 3-3 deadlock.
BlackBall gained the upper hand in the second Partners 8-Ball match with Farinas and Roman Rodriguez, along with Hermogenes and David, claiming both matches for a clean sweep and a 5-3 spread.
The Tres Marias fought back but BlackBall split the following Singles 8-Ball match evenly to maintain control and secure the win, 9-6.
Eagles Eye vs Homeboyz
Last Shot Eagles Eye secured the other championship spot by slipping past Last Shot/IT&E Homeboyz 9-7.
The individual work of Eagles Eye’s team-members was the key to their victory.
After splitting the opening Partners 8-Ball evenly, Eagles Eye’s Rolly Villanueva, Nilo Panes and Eric Baugh bested their opponents in the next Singles 8-Ball game for a 3-1 run and a 4-2 lead.
The Homeboyz fought hard but they did not have enough firepower against Eagles Eye which soared to victory, 9-7.
