USS Frank Cable sailors complete 5th day of quarantine

THE roughly 500 crewmembers of the USS Frank Cable, which docked at the Commonwealth seaport last week, completed their fifth day of testing Tuesday, the Commonwealth Healthcare Corp. announced.

CNMI Covid-19 Task Force Chairman Warren Villagomez on Friday said the sailors went through the same protocols as inbound travelers.

“They [have to go] through the same protocol if they’re going to be expecting to set foot on the island, but right now, they’re on water,” he added.

The sailors quarantined on the ship, whose homeport is Guam, and will be cleared to set foot on Saipan upon testing negative for Covid-19 on the fifth day.

Gov. Ralph DLG Torres, for his part, said there are two vessels in the Saipan lagoon and both will be here for a few weeks.

“We have some military [personnel] that will be here in the area for at least a week or so,” he added.

Specimen from travelers is collected upon arrival and on the fifth day after arrival. The day after a traveler’s date of arrival is counted as the first day of quarantine.

All travelers are encouraged to fill out their health declaration form online prior to arrival at https://governor.gov.mp/covid-19/travel
