KOROR (Island Times/Pacnews) — Ninety percent of Palau’s population is now vaccinated against Covid-19, according to the Ministry of Health and Human Services.
This figure is well over Palau’s targeted herd immunity rate of 80%.
The health ministry said 14,644 adults over 18 have been fully vaccinated while 1,225 adolescents 12 to 17 years old are fully vaccinated. The total number of fully vaccinated people in the island-nation is 15,869.
At the same time, there are two active Covid-19 cases that are travel-related. These were the contacts of the Sept. 10 positive case.
These two cases were tested on day-five and one was positive while the other was negative. Both remain in isolation pending their day-10 test.
Three other cases have recovered and these include the Sept. 10 positive case who tested negative on day-10 and was released.
As for the 99 passengers who arrived from Guam on Sept. 19, the health ministry said they all tested negative upon arrival.
To contain Covid-19, the health ministry said 260 adults over 18 years old have been administered a third shot of the vaccine; 4,372 have been placed under quarantine since April 2020; and 9,658 have undergone Covid-19 tests since April 2020.
