THE Marianas High School 1 Dolphins have taken the lead in the PSS High School Girls Volleyball Tournament after collecting their third straight win Tuesday at the MHS gym.
MHS 1 took down Saipan Southern High School 2, 25-10, 25-13.
It was MHS 1’s teamwork that was unmatchable as it was backed with communication and sheer hustle.
With each successful return made by SSHS 2, Kina Rangamar, Julie Capayas, Rizza Relucio, Abigail Decena and the rest of the MHS 1 Dolphins covered their end.
Along with consistent setups to finish with strong spikes, MHS 1 quickly established control.
Miscommunications and errors on the part of the Dolphins handed SSHS 2 a few points, but MHS 1 still bagged the first set, 25-10.
In the second set, the SSHS 2 Manta Rays put in more effort to stay in the game, forcing MHS 1 to commit errors, but the Manta Rays still struggled to find their groove offensively.
With enough touches to further build momentum, MHS 1 ended the set and the game by trouncing SSHS 2, 25-13.
MCS 1 vs MCS 2
Mount Carmel School 1 remains a top contender as well as the Knights clinched their second win in their game against sister-team MCS 2.
It was a tough match with both teams having an answer on both ends of the court. However, the more experienced players such as Mia Abuan, Gayle Vidal and Fiona Bucalig powered MCS 1 which won the first set 25-12.
The second set gave MCS 1 more time to implement their strategy as they dominated MCS 2 to win the match, 25-9.
MHS 3 had an exciting match as well as they earned their very first victory in a third and extra set against SSHS 1, 25-12, 12-25, 15-9; while Grace Christian Academy 1 defeated Kagman High School 25-2, 25-9; and MHS 2 beat Saipan International School 2, 25-14, 25-15.
MHS 2’s Angellyn Roligot bends to save the possession during a high school girls volleyball game at the MHS gym.
