GCA 1’s winning streak continues in girls volleyball

GRACE Christian Academy 1 remains the team to beat in the Public School System Girls High School Volleyball Tournament after outplaying Saipan International School 1, 25-15, 25-5, Saturday at the MHS gym.

It was the battle of the undefeated teams as both entered the match with three wins and zero loss.

Against SIS 1, the GCA 1 Eagles quickly established their dominance.

GCA 1’s veteran players Karina Dilse, Katriel Saures and Hye Jin Elliott stood at the frontline with proper setups, using all three touches before sending the ball over the net. With the help of fellow Eagles Clerrise Dacumos, Soleil Lamar, Vicky  Wang, Mint Karsuaythong, Eunice Pagaduan and Allyssa Omampo, GCA 1 had more than enough firepower and soon gained a big lead.

SIS 1’s Tiana Cabrera, Serin Chung, Elizabeth Culp, along with sisters Aubrey and Audrey Castro, tried to keep their team alive but to no avail as the Eagles clinched the first set,  25-15.

The second set only solidified the Eagles’ advantage as they greatly improved their all-around performance.

SIS 1 was nearly silenced for the entire game but due to a few errors committed by GCA 1, the Geckos managed to score a few points.

It did not take long before GCA 1 could seal the deal as the Eagles left the Geckos in the dust 25-5.

SIS 1 did not end the day empty-handed, however, as the Geckos thumped MHS 3 in three sets, 27-25, 22-25, 15-10.

Marianas High School 1 also joined the winner’s circle after beating Kagman High School 25-8, 25-22.

 In the other matches, MHS 2 clobbered MHS 3, 25-16, 21-25, 15-7; GCA 2 trounced Saipan Southern High School 2, 25-12, 25-4; Mount Carmel School 1 got the better of SSHS 1, 25-10, 25-19; MCS 3 edged SIS 2, 25-16, 13-25, 15-9; while MCS 2 outlasted KHS, 25-19, 21-25, 15-13.
