Three unique cats seek new homes as owner prepares to leave Saipan

DIANA Silveira has spent the last two years building a life on Saipan, and at the center of it have been three cats who became, in her own words, her “loving lights” through challenging times. Now, as a worsening island economy forces her to seek work off-island, Diana faces one of the hardest parts of her departure: finding the right homes for Konane, Takeo, and Nuri before she leaves in July.

“It breaks my heart to have to give these three up,” Diana said. “But I have to support myself.”

She is not looking for just any home. All three cats are indoor-only, dog-friendly, and accustomed to a loving, attentive environment. Diana stresses it’s of great importance to her that the animals are placed with responsible, caring owners who will give them the same devotion she has.

Konane, Hawaiian for “bright, unobscured light,” is an approximately 2-year-old neutered male calico, a rarity among male cats as the calico pattern and genotype typically present in females felines. Only 1 in 3,000 calico births are male, and the males are born sterile.

Konane is an “absolute love bug”, who follows his person everywhere, gives generous headbutts, loves to make biscuits, and expresses his affection with a gentle nose bite. He purrs, trills, and wants nothing more than endless pets and snuggles. Konane prefers dry food but eats both. He is ideally adopted together with his bonded companion, Takeo.

Takeo, whose name means “warrior” in Japanese, is an approximately 2-year-old neutered male ginger. Mostly mellow with occasional bursts of the zoomies, Takeo has recently begun opening up and seeking more affection. He purrs, trills, loves all cat food, and shows his feelings with gentle bites. He is missing his lower back left leg but requires no special care or accommodations. One important note for potential adopters: Takeo has a tendency to chew on hair ties, bread ties, and similar items so those must be kept out of his reach. Takeo is ideally adopted alongside Konane.

Nuri, Arabic for “my light” and Diana’s name for him, is an approximately 1.5-year-old neutered male Siamese. The youngest of the trio, Nuri is a high-energy spitfire with a big personality. He loves fetch, scales anything vertical, and has mastered the art of opening cabinet doors. He is an enthusiastic talker who meows and trills, and earns his nickname as a true love bug. Nuri may be adopted solo or with both of his companions.

All three are up to date on monthly deworming and have been well cared for throughout their lives. They will be available beginning July 19, 2026.

Diana acknowledges that the indoor-only requirement and the island’s post-typhoon economic recovery may make placement more challenging, which is why she is reaching out now, to ensure there is still time to find the right match.
