(Office of the Governor) — Governor Arnold I. Palacios proudly welcomes home the Commonwealth’s athletes following their record-breaking performance at the 2025 Pacific Mini Games held in Koror, Palau from June 29 to July 9.
“This is a moment of immense pride for the Northern Mariana Islands,” said Governor Palacios. “Our athletes have not only represented the CNMI with honor and determination, but they have also made history.”
Team Marianas brought home an impressive 27 medals, including 9 gold, 7 silver, and 11 bronze, marking one of the CNMI’s most successful campaigns in Pacific Mini Games history.
Isaiah Aleksenko, just 19 years old, emerged as a standout star, winning six gold medals in swimming across backstroke, butterfly, and individual medley events. His performance in the 200m butterfly, clocking in at 1:58.52, broke the two-minute barrier and challenged regional swimming powerhouses2.
Nathania Tan, 24, delivered a historic moment by securing the CNMI’s first-ever athletics gold medal in the women’s 10,000m, finishing in 38:03.57.
In field events, Lyle Pedro Andrew claimed gold in the men’s hammer throw, while the CNMI wrestling team added five medals, including a silver by Vincent Palacios in the 60kg freestyle.
Governor Palacios extended heartfelt gratitude to the Republic of Palau for their warm hospitality and exceptional organization. “Palau was a gracious host, and the spirit of unity and sportsmanship was felt throughout the Games. We thank President Surangel Whipps Jr., the organizing committee, and the people of Palau for welcoming our athletes and showcasing the best of Pacific pride.”
The Governor also acknowledged the Northern Marianas Sports Association, coaches, families, supporters, and financial sponsors who made this journey possible. “Your support and belief in our athletes helped fuel their success. You are all part of this victory.”
As the athletes return home, the CNMI celebrates not just medals, but the values of perseverance, teamwork, and regional unity. “Welcome home, Team Marianas. You’ve made us proud. Let this be the beginning of even greater achievements to come.”
