NMI Democrats call for 2026 candidates to file by July 31

THE Democratic Party of the Northern Mariana Islands has set Thursday, July 31, 2025, as the deadline for incumbent Democrats and other prospective candidates to submit their letter of intent to run in the November 2026 general elections.

The deadline was set by the party’s central executive committee during a recent meeting. Candidates are required to submit their letters of intent to party chair Annie Pickelsimer.

The letter of intent template is available on the party’s website at nmidems.org and can be emailed upon completion to anniep7839@gmail.com/. To arrange for hand delivery of the letter, candidates may call (670) 287-1446.

Pickelsimer also emphasized a passage from the Credo of the Democratic Party of the United States, stating:

“We Democrats are the oldest political party in America and the youngest in spirit. We will remain so because we embrace the challenge of government. Time and again, for almost two centuries, the Democratic Party has made government work — to build and defend a nation, to encourage commerce, to educate our children, to promote equal opportunity and access, to advance science and industry, to support the arts and humanities, to restore the land, to develop and conserve our human and natural resources, to preserve and enhance our built environment, to relieve poverty, to explore space. We have reached difficult and vital goals.

“We recognize that the capacity of government is limited, but we regard democratic government as a force for good and a source of hope. At the heart of our party lies a fundamental conviction: that Americans must not only be free, but they must live in a fair society. We believe it is the responsibility of government to help us achieve this fair society.

“This is our purpose and our promise.”

Pickelsimer said candidates who are ready to “embrace the challenge of government,” believe that government should be “a force for good and a source of hope,” and are committed to building a fair society for all people of the Northern Mariana Islands, will find that the NMI Democratic Party stands ready to assist them in their journey toward elective office.

“Let’s work together to raise incomes and lower costs so that working people have the tools and opportunities to build a good life,” Pickelsimer said. “Together, we can build a safe, healthy, beautiful, sustainable, and truly inclusive Northern Marianas.”
