(CCA) — The Commonwealth Cancer Association held its inaugural Golf Open on Saturday June 19, at the LaoLao Bay Golf & Resort-East Course!
It was a perfect day with excellent attendance as golfers set off with their individual ditty bags filled with gifts, sanitizers and tournament shirts along with the many amazing items donated by the following sponsors: Tan Siu Lin Foundation, Triple J Saipan, Bank of Guam, TakeCare Insurance, Micronesian Brokers Inc., PHI Pharmacy, Brabu, Pharmacy, IT&E, GPPC Inc., Hofschneider Engineering, J. E. T. Holdings, Seventh-day Adventist Clinic, Kautz Glass, Ambyth Shipping, and Docomo Pacific.
Players were served with Herman Modern Bakery’s delicious Danishes, ice-coffee provided by Marpac and hot coffee provided by CCA as they prepared for shotgun.
As the players made their way out, oranges, bananas and apples were made available, including printed t-shirts donated by Tan Holdings and Island Apparel.
All teams were out on the course promptly at 7 a.m., excited to scramble for the amazing hole-in-one prizes and optional play games. Monetary prizes were made possible through the donation of sponsors.
The hole-in-one prizes included $10,000 from RenBat Company Inc. dba ABC Rent A Car/ACE Auto Glass on Hole No. 4, and a brand new 2022 Mitsubishi Outlander from Triple J on Hole No. 11.
It was a great day on the golf course, with eagles, birdies and bogeys.
Players were hydrated throughout the tournament thanks to beverages donated by Marianas Pacific Distributors, JC Marketing, Star Water, the CNMI House of Representatives, the Office of Youth Affairs, and Saipan Water & Ice.
Players and volunteers enjoyed a great time on the course, with free-flowing beverages and delicious tuna/egg sandwiches donated by Shirley’s Catering.
After the tournament, an awards banquet was held in the LaoLao Bay lobby with CCA board president Bo Palacios, board treasurer Cesar Dumatol, board member Jocelyn Deleon Guerrero, board member Nicolette V. Inos, and executive director Juan L. Babauta congratulating the players and winners.
Between raffling the blackjack double Peoria holes, exciting raffle prizes and tickets, the players enjoyed a great banquet.
All would not be possible without the support of the event and raffle prize sponsors: Joeten Motors, LaoLao Bay Golf & Resort, Marpac Saipan Advertising, Kensington Hotel, Coral Ocean Point, Pacific Islands Club, Triple J, D&Q Distributors, Hyatt Regency, TakeCare Insurance, Kinpachi Restaurant, Joeten Superstore, Mobil Oil Mariana Islands, National Office Supply, Rock Steady, Athlete’s Foot, Marianas Medical Supplies and DFS T-Galleria.
CCA would also like to extend its profound gratitude to an amazing group of volunteers. The collaborative efforts of all involved made this event the success it was.
Our humble volunteers included friends and families of survivors: Ben and Linda Babauta, Franco M. Santos, Lynn Tenorio, Rob Hunter, Miku Torres, Mia Hirsh, Caroline Agulto, Buddy Igitol, Tracy Camacho, Crystal Ann Delos Reyes, NMC Nursing Club members, Jenypy Sambile, Xerxes Mangarero, Noelani McMahon, Laolao Bay Golf & Resort staff. And special thanks also to Saipan Tribune and Marianas Variety.
CCA likewise extends its gratitude to the 2021 tournament players, for their enthusiasm and support of the cancer association.
Its success allows CCA to continue to provide essential programs and services, and further its mission to advocate for a cancer-free CNMI through early detection, public education and awareness about cancer prevention and screening.
The Commonwealth Cancer Association provides hope and support for cancer patients, survivors, and their families through community partnerships and programs.
