Man struck by pickup truck sustains multiple injuries

A MAN sustained multiple injuries, including a laceration on the back of his head, after he was struck by a pickup truck on Middle Road in Puerto Rico on early Saturday morning.

The driver said he did not see the pedestrian because it was “dark.”

As of press time Sunday, it was not yet known if the pedestrian, who was barefoot, was trying to cross the road when the incident happened. Graphic videos and photos of the victim have been posted on social media.

Department of Fire and Emergency Medical Services responders found the victim facedown and pinned under the front end of a red Toyota Tacoma pickup, said DFEMS medic Jaime Cuellar in a statement on Sunday.

“Patient could be heard breathing,” Cuellar added.

Cuellar said he and the other first responders slightly lifted the front-end side of the pickup truck while another responder reversed the vehicle.

“A spine board was then positioned beside [the pedestrian] and [he] was logrolled into it, where he was fully immobilized and loaded for transport,” the DFEMS medic added.

The victim was not identified, and the approximate time of the incident was also not provided.

According to DFEMS, the victim sustained injuries that included laceration/puncture on the back of the head, abrasions to lower back, deformity to right ankle, abrasions to forehead, laceration to chin, abrasions to left arm and to both knees.

The auto-pedestrian incident occurred in front of Island Apparel building on Middle Road in Puerto Rico.

As of press time Sunday, The Department of Public Safety had not issued any statement regarding the incident.
