Tanapag Middle School 8th graders attend NMTI classes

(PSS) — Through Tanapag Middle School’s partnership with the Northern Marianas Technical Institute, TMS’s eighth graders are attending culinary arts, welding, construction, electronics and automotive classes at NMTI.

Thirty students are participating in a month-long Summer Learning Program that began on June 28, 2021.

“We are very proud of our students — they are eager and excited to learn,” TMS principal Hilda Rios said, adding that this is the third year that Tanapag students are attending NMTI summer classes.

“Attendance has been 100%,” she said.

Tanapag Middle School, for its part, has implemented its own on-campus summer program for sixth and seventh graders. The courses include reading and math recovery as well as project-based learning in math.

The other enrichment programs for TMS students are cultural arts, Carolinian mass dance, Chamorro culinary food preparation, hula dance, hip-hop dance, Muay Thai, karate, and team-building/physical education.
