HENRY Camacho Jr. bagged the first place Red Plate trophy and $250 cash for topping the Novice Class of the Marianas Racing Association 2021 Points Race Series which concluded on Sunday, July 25, at Cowtown Raceway Park.
Although Camacho was a motocross rider from 2001 to 2007, the sport took a very long hiatus on island, returning only last year.
In the 2021 MRA series, Camacho’s consistency allowed him to rack up enough points to finish first in the Novice Class.
In the first round of the series held in January, Camacho scored 35 points. But in the next six rounds, his scores improved significantly as he garnered 44, 40, 44, 44, 47 and 47 points in the seventh and last round to amass a total score of 301 points.
Although his ultimate goal was to win the title, Camacho said he still wanted to make sure he had some fun. “My strategy was just to go out and enjoy. This sport has always had a place in my heart. It just felt great being back on the bike and competing,” he added.
“It’s great to win but improving my craft in the sport and seeing the improvements I’ve made from the start of the season is even better,” Camacho said.
For the next series, he said he’ll join the Intermediate Class. “No Expert Class for me just yet,” he added.
Camacho bested 21 other riders in the Novice Class which had the largest number of participants.
Corry Pangelinan came close but finished 11 points behind Camacho. His round by round scores were 50, 9, 50, 37, 50, 47 and 47 for a total of 290 points. For his second-place finish, Pangelinan received $150 cash.
Kier Agda came in third with a total of 245 points (42, 50, 44, 45, 0, 30 and 34) to take home $100 cash.
