New humanities grant program to help NMI organizations affected by the coronavirus

(Press Release) — The Northern Marianas Humanities Council is pleased to launch the American Såtba – Ammalaw Program or ASAP, a new grant-making program created to award funds to CNMI nonprofit organizations, government agencies, and accredited public and 501(c)(3) institutions of higher education affected by the coronavirus pandemic. The Northern Marianas Humanities Council was awarded $203,935 by the National Endowment for the Humanities through the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021 to support activities that help organizations prevent, prepare for, respond to, and recover from the coronavirus.

The application period opens August 13, 2021 and closes on September 30, 2021. Applicants can request up to $20,000 for: humanities projects, strategic planning, capacity building, technical support, and other activities related to preparing, responding to, and recovering from the coronavirus. Applicants with humanities-focused missions or purposes may also apply for funding to support general operating costs.

During August, the council will be conducting the following info sessions:

• Aug. 16, 2021, 5:30 p.m., MANGO conference room, Springs Plaza Bldg.

• Aug. 18, 2021, 10 a.m., Tinian Mayor’s Office conference room

• Aug. 23, 2021, 9:30 a.m. via Zoom: http://www.nmhcouncil.org/asapwebinar

• Aug. 25, 2021, 1 p.m., Rota Mayor’s Office conference hall

With the exception of info sessions scheduled via Zoom, in-person sessions will have limited seating and participants will be admitted on a space-available basis and in accordance with current Covid-19 social gathering protocols.
