Jenisha Dubrall tops fishing tournament

TASI To Table held its shallow bottom fishing tournament for  students on Saturday with Jenisha Dubrall reeling in the heaviest catch of the day, a goat fish weighing 0.65 pound at the transient dock of Smiling Cove Marina.

The event was sponsored by Fishing Tackle and Sporting Goods, and the Marianas Visitors Authority.

Finishing second was Derik Reyes who caught a 0.55 lbs grouper while  Rudy Castro placed third with a 0.50 lbs grouper.

One of the participating students, Kina Rangamar, said: “It was a great experience. I had never been out to the sea before, and the fact that I was able to get on a boat and experience fishing was good. The water was rough today but some of us did manage to get some fish. Although I didn’t catch anything, it was still very exciting!”

Agi Camacho, grandmother of Derik Reyes, said she and other parents and grandparents of the students will continue to support  Tasi to Table’s overall goal which is to share fishing knowledge with the youth while teaching them the importance of marine conservation.

“We’re here to support the kids,” she said. “This is a good event for the kids to learn how to fish. This is a good club. It teaches them how to catch their breakfast, lunch or dinner. And fish is very nutritional. I encourage other parents to get their kids involved in fishing.”

Vince Reyes, another parent, said: “When I was younger I used to fish. And now my daughter has been with Tasi to Table for two years now. I love these events. They keep the kids busy rather than staying home and staring at their phones.”
