Rep. Manglona, Sen. Santos to co-chair Rota delegation

THE four-member Rota Legislative Delegation on Tuesday elected Rep. Donald M. Manglona and Sen. Teresita A. Santos as co-chairs.

During its organizational session on Tuesday in the Senate chamber, the delegation also elected Sen. Paul A. Manglona as the floor leader, and Sen. Victor B. Hocog, the delegation secretary.

The delegation members met unofficially last week to decide on the chairmanship, and agreed to officially convene Tuesday, five months since the inauguration of the 22nd Legislature.

In their first session, the members elected Senator Hocog to be chair pro-tempore while Senator Manglona served as floor leader pro-tempore before they proceeded to elect the officers.

Senator Manglona nominated Representative Manglona to be the delegation chair while Hocog nominated Santos as co-chair.

Hocog also urged his colleagues “to bury the past and move on to serve the people of Rota.”

In their joint memorandum to Gov. Ralph DLG Torres, Representative Manglona and Senator Santos said the Rota delegation now stands ready to conduct its legislative business, “and we look forward to working with your office.”

For his part, Senator Manglona said, “Finally, with our delegation organization behind us, we can move forward in addressing the many critical and pending issues that are before us and the great financial and economic challenges that we face.”

“Our people are tired of politics as usual and they care only about trying to make ends meet from paycheck to paycheck,” he added.

He said Rota has to “follow up” on federally funded capital improvement projects, and must also deal with Rota Health Center matters, inter-island medical referral funding, scholarship financial assistance, agricultural and small business programs, and the budget needs of the Rota Municipal Council and the municipality.
