(Press Release) — Pacific Islands Club Saipan employees and E-Land Group management gathered for a beach cleanup on June 9 at Pakpak Beach. Thirty-four individuals picked up trash along the shore near the resort.
According to Gloria Cavanagh, the general manager of PIC Saipan, beach cleanup has been one of their regular community outreach activities for years.
“This month, we got together for a beach cleanup in line with the CNMI Ocean Month initiative,” Cavanagh said. “Our employees are always enthusiastic about volunteering. We are proud that we can help prevent debris flowing into our beloved ocean.”
PIC’s sister hotel, Kensington, conducts cleanups at Paupau Beach on a regular basis.
In May, 18 employees of Kensington Hotel teamed up for a beach cleanup. Paupau Beach Park is a site adopted by E-Land Group as part of the Public Private Partnership Program initiated by the Governor’s Council of Economic Advisers.
“Marine ecosystem such as corals and fish, which make Saipan’s ocean so special, can be affected by plastic and other non-degradable debris. We conduct beach cleanups not only to help beautify the island, but also to remind ourselves about the importance of environmental stewardship,” said Brian Shin, chief executive officer of Micronesia Resort Inc., E-Land Group’s local holding company.
He added, “When tourism is resumed, we would like to present clean beaches to visitors so that they can appreciate the beauty of Saipan and its ocean.”
PIC employees and E-Land Group management conducted a cleanup at Pakpak Beach in San Antonio on June 9, 2021.
