NICK Gross proved that he was the man to beat in the javelin throw and shotput events of the Northern Marianas Athletics Track & Field Open Meet 2021 on Saturday at the Oleai Sports Complex.
Gross threw the javelin a distance of 45.84m to finish first in the Masters 35 & Above Division and overall.
In 2002, he recorded a distance of 59.74m at the Dakota Athletic Conference championships, and in 2005 he threw a distance of 56.26m at the Micronesian sub-regional championships.
Coming in second place on Saturday at the Oleai Sports Complex was Tony Ichiuo who recorded a distance of 37.64 followed by Gregory Borja who threw a distance of 21.98.
In the U18 Division, Leani Deleon Guerrero Acosta topped the women’s category with a distance of 25.23m followed by Angellyn Roligat with 21m and Maria Rasa in third with 17.78m.
In the men’s category, Joseph Pangelinan led the pack with 26.6m beating Tyler Andrew’s 22.6m.
In the Open Division, Cassandra Camacho took first place with a distance of 18.33m.
Elly Aguon was second with 13.61m and Denis Myers was third with 12.7m.
In the men’s category, Orrin Pharmin powered through to first place with a distance of 35.41m while Lyle Andrew took second place with 27.78m.
In the shotput event, Gross dominated the Masters 35 & Above Division by reaching a distance of 9.27m.
Second and third were Tony Ichiuo at 7.96m and Gregory Borja at 7.34m.
In the Open Division, lone female participant Cassandra Camacho threw a distance of 8.55m while Orrin Pharmin took over the men’s category with 7.76m followed by Lyle Andrew with 7.75m and Simon Necesito with 6.51m.
In the U18 division, only the women participated, and it was topped by Maria Rasa who threw a distance of 6.64m followed by Angellyn Roligat with 6.61m.
